Bronx Teen Confesses to Roasting Kitten

"I hate cats," Cheyenne Cherry, 17, allegedly told investigators when asked about the heartless crime.

A heartless teen mom who helped burn a kitten alive after breaking into an ex-pal's Bronx apartment has been busted by the ASPCA and charged with felony animal cruelty.

The 14-year-old, whose name was not released, told investigators she helped 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry trash the apartment last month and then toss the kitten named Tiger Lily into an oven.

"She admitted the oven was set to 500 degrees," said ASPCA Assistant Director Joseph Pentangelo. The 14-year-old, who has a four-month-old baby girl, is currently serving time for an unrelated crime in a juvenile detention center in the Bronx. She was removed from the facility on Tuesday and slapped with charges of burglary and aggravated animal cruelty.

Then she was returned to the Bronx facility.

Cherry was arrested for her alleged role in the shocking crime almost two weeks ago. She told investigators the two wanted to play a joke on their former friend Valerie Hernandez.

They slashed her furniture, cut electrical wires, and splashed bleach on the walls after breaking into her Tinton Ave. apartment on May 6. In addition, the duo stole DVDs and some food before they put the tiny kitten in the oven and shut the door.

Cherry said they left the apartment because she didn't want to hear the Tiger Lily scratching at the oven door. Neighbors called firefighters when they smelled smoke.

They broke into the apartment and found the dead kitten smoldering in the oven. The Daily News revealed that Cherry has a history of violent crimes, including the armed dog-napping of a teacup Yorkie and robbing a man of his IPod at gunpoint.

After she was arrested by ASPCA agents on June 3, she was released into the custody of her mother. Several days later she was re-arrested for violating probation. She's in custody at Rikers Island.

The brutal crime has raised the ire of animal lovers all over the country.

Pentangelo said the ASPCA has been flooded with angry calls since agents arrested Cherry. Petitions calling for harsh penalties have popped up on the Internet.
